guide to success
keys to succeed in youth sports
Learning Over Winning
We believe that there a few fundamental truths in youth basketball;
Winning is NOT the ultimate measurement of growth
Teaching technical skills that matter for an athlete to use for their entire career far outweigh “easy-outs”, like playing zone, exclusively running set-plays, or over-emphasizing the result of games instead of practice reps.
We aim to combat this by focusing on development first, and getting our athletes to buy into a growth mentality, in lieu of chasing instant gratification.
Finding the Right Coach
A coach is one of the most powerful resources a young athlete has access to.
When selecting our coaches, we focus on assembling a small team that has demonstrated a commitment to growth, and working together to provide the best possible experience for our athletes.
Our coaches don’t coach 7 teams at once, they are invested in the team & select few players they get to work with each season.

Character Development
There is a great quote from Bill Walton that reads
“People play basketball the way they live their lives”
The reality is, most of the athletes that come through the Ignite program won’t reach the NBA. Their playing career will eventually end, and the life skills they have acquired over time will need to translate into helping them in school, relationships and in their careers.
We put a premium on athletes using sport as a vehicle to teach about life, developing work ethic, and how to treat others.
Social & Community
We love the quote above, as we’ve observed it’s truth after years of hearing from our players that have graduated out of the Ignite program.
Players choose to play basketball out of love for the sport, and end up developing friendships that last a lifetime.
Basketball is an excellent bridge to connect new people and create the opportunity to make friends, access coaching mentors, and much more.
