IGNITE “WOODEN” TEAMS

WOODEN TEAMS

Wooden Teams: Wooden teams are our competitive developmental teams geared toward including and placing athletes who want to improve on their fundamental skills in a faster paced environment. Teams are created through tryouts with an effort to place all athletes into challenging environments based on individual needs of team and personal growth. Evaluations occur throughout the year and within tryouts. Athletes will work at the appropriate age and skill development needs within the competitive stages of training.

“WOODEN” TEAMS

The Wooden team identification is named after the great teacher and UCLA basketball coach John Wooden.

Wooden is well known for creating the Pyramid of success, a carefully thought-out formulation of principles and character traits he believed were essential for personal and organization success with his faith being the foundation of the pyramid. At Ignite, we share these principles and hold the same passion and excitement to see athletes grow in their game not only as basketball players, but as young men and women.

Although there are varying degrees of what is considered newly-developing, we identified Wooden for those athletes looking to compete and grow in their game who are beyond the beginner level, but not yet ready to compete in City-level competition. Practices are skill driven and focused on increasing each athlete’s fundamental abilities.

Wooden teams are designed to serve athletes and help them achieve their maximum potential. John Wooden said it best around his own definition of success: “Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to become the best you are capable of becoming”
